Sherwood Forest Railway 15 inch

The Sherwood Forest Railway first opened in 2000. The building of the line commenced in winter 1999/2000 after the Colley family had purchased two steam locomotives 'Pet' and 'Smokey Joe' from Keith Hardy (the builder of both). The line originally ran in to a nearby sheep field which was situated on the right of the station. However the following year, the line was slightly altered and now ran down a slight gradient, past pig paddocks to a temporary halt. Since the line has been gradually extended and now runs from Loxley Station to Welldale Station, a distance of approximately 800 yards. There are plans to extend the railway further round the site in the future. Trains are usually steam hauled however the IC locomotives are occasionally used.
